Meet the Candidates: Schertz Mayoral Race Heats Up

Schertz residents will soon decide their next mayor, with the election set for November 4, 2025.

Incumbent Ralph Gutierrez seeks re-election, emphasizing his track record in public safety, infrastructure, and steady growth since first serving as mayor in 2019.

A retired U.S. Air Force veteran and long-time resident, Gutierrez underscores his commitment to preserving Schertz’s quality of life and small-town feel even as the city expands.

Challenger Ralph Rodriguez brings over four decades of public safety experience, currently leading as a fire chief and managing a multi-million-dollar budget.

Rodriguez’s campaign spotlights open communication, fiscal responsibility, and building public trust while addressing infrastructure like streets and sidewalks.

Both candidates are united in their dedication to responsible growth and community engagement.

Early voting runs from October 20 to 31, inviting all residents to play an active role in the city’s future.

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD Kicks Off 2025-26 School Year Amid Construction Projects

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD kicked off the 2025-26 school year on August 14, welcoming more than 15,000 students back to campus.

This year’s return comes as major road construction reshapes the area.

The FM 1518 Expansion Project—now underway—will widen the route near Corbett Junior High and Rose Garden Elementary, with completion projected by 2028.

Meanwhile, the FM 1103 Project stretches from I-35 to Rodeo Way by Steele High School, expanding two lanes into four by early 2026.

SCUC ISD has worked closely with local authorities to manage traffic, inform families about alternate routes, and keep student safety at the forefront.

In addition, a $6.27 million technology upgrade is planned over three years, refreshing student devices and bolstering campus security systems.

Agreements with Cibolo and Schertz ensure school resource officers remain on campuses, reinforcing safety as the district adapts to growth and infrastructure improvements.
