Incumbent Ralph Gutierrez Faces Challenger Ralph Rodriguez in Upcoming Election

As the November 4, 2025, election approaches, Schertz residents are preparing to choose their next mayor.

The race features two candidates: incumbent Ralph Gutierrez and challenger Ralph Rodriguez.

Early voting is scheduled from October 20 to October 31.

Ralph Gutierrez has served as Schertz's mayor since 2019.

Before his tenure as mayor, he was a City Council member from 2016 to 2019.

A native Texan and Schertz resident since 1991, Gutierrez retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1994 and later from the U.S. Federal Courts, where he managed the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) system.

He emphasizes his commitment to public safety, infrastructure enhancement, and fostering responsible growth that brings new jobs while preserving Schertz’s quality of life.

Gutierrez highlights his experience in guiding Schertz through growth while maintaining its status as one of the safest cities in Texas.

He acknowledges the challenge of managing rapid growth while preserving the small-town character and quality of life that residents value.

Gutierrez wants residents to know that he cares deeply about the community and is dedicated to improving the lives of Schertz residents.

Ralph Rodriguez brings over 40 years of public safety experience to the race.

Currently serving as a fire chief for an Emergency Service District, he manages a $52 million budget and leads more than 150 employees.

Rodriguez's priorities include managing growth responsibly, leading with integrity, and listening to residents.

He plans to focus on open communication, developing a fiscally responsible budget, repairing streets, improving sidewalks, and addressing community needs while building a shared vision for the city’s future.

Rodriguez identifies the greatest challenge for Schertz as managing rapid growth while preserving trust and integrity in city leadership.

He emphasizes the importance of open communication with residents to build confidence in decisions.

Rodriguez wants residents to know that Schertz is his lifelong home.

He graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in 1983, served 20 years with the Schertz Fire Department, and has coached youth programs for over 30 years.

With a servant leader’s heart, he loves Schertz and its future deeply.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the upcoming election to have their voices heard in shaping the future of Schertz.
