Schertz Animal Shelter Seeks Donations After Rescuing 64 Abandoned Pets

Community Urged to Support Shelter Amid Sudden Influx of Animals

In a heart-wrenching discovery, Schertz police officers found 64 cats and dogs abandoned in a residence on Hillbrook Drive over the weekend. The animals were in dire need of medical attention, having been deprived of basic necessities. The majority were cats, all now under the care of Schertz Animal Control for treatment and shelter.

The sudden arrival of these animals has placed a significant strain on the resources of the Schertz Animal Services facility. To address this urgent need, the shelter is appealing to the community for donations. Essential items requested include:

- Bleach

- Dry and wet cat food

- Cat food dishes

- Flea and tick medication

- Zip ties

- Fabuloso cleaner (apple, lemon, or lavender scent)

- Dry dog food

- Newspapers

- Plastic envelopes (5x7)

- Spray bottles

Monetary contributions are also welcomed to cover the costs of vaccinations and medical care for the rescued animals. Donations can be delivered to the Schertz Animal Services facility at 800 Community Circle. For inquiries, please contact Animal Services at 210-619-1550.

The community's generosity has been evident, with numerous donations already received. However, continued support is crucial to ensure the well-being of these animals as they recover and await adoption. The shelter's staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide care, but the scale of this rescue operation necessitates ongoing community involvement.

In light of this incident, Schertz police have initiated an investigation into animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor. The circumstances leading to the abandonment are under scrutiny, and authorities are committed to ensuring justice for these animals.

This situation underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and community vigilance. Residents are encouraged to report any signs of animal neglect or abandonment to local authorities promptly. By working together, the community can help prevent such distressing situations and ensure the safety and well-being of all animals in Schertz.

The Schertz Animal Shelter remains dedicated to its mission of caring for animals in need. With the community's continued support, they can provide a safe haven for these rescued pets and work towards finding them loving, permanent homes.
